The most important task for the upcoming Davis Cup tie is building the tennis court and requires the great work of volunteers to come to life.
What it involves:
- Sunday 7th September at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena, Sport Ireland Campus, Blanchardstown.
- On site for 7.45am – there is free parking at the venue.
- Estimated finish time: 7pm latest however it all depends on how quick the court is built which relies on teamwork.
- Everything is led by the court company supervisor. 1 Tennis Ireland staff will also be on site (Lisa Murphy).
- Repetitive heavy lifting of court plates to place them in sequence.
- Lifting is from pallets so shoulder height of someone 5’8 (estimate) or taller. The lifting height decreases as the plates are taken from the pallets so height is not a big issue.
- Bending down to place the heavy plates and pushing them into place with your feet.
- Good teamwork is essential as it takes 2-3 people to lift 1 plate and walk it over to be connected to the plates.
- Estimated time to complete building the court: 7-12 hours – all depends on the number of volunteers, teamwork and work rate.
